I could probably stare at helena christensen's eyes all day....I don't know why, but I think her eyes look strikingly similar to that very famous national geographic cover of that afghan girl from 1985. I think it shows in this photo. even if you don't see it, you have to admit she does have some gorgeous eyes....

I love to wander around music stores (that is if there are any left) and look at album covers. I feel that album art is very under appreciated at times. there are certain artists that always have interesting album art....some that come to mind are tori amos, pj harvey, and björk, to name a few. I must say that annie lennox definetly fits in that category. she has the best eyes and somehow always features them on her covers....her eyes are both striking and haunting at the same time. this is actually a close-up of her eye and I so love those lashes....its intriguing how she can range from extremely beautified to androgynous and still look as equally gorgeous. at any rate, she is definetly one of the most fascinating woman in music!

I am loving a lot of the photography from harper's bazaar UK....its way more edgier than the US version. this past june, I was in awe of an editorial of actress evan green. I particularly loved this close-up black and white image of her....the make-up is absolute perfection!

boston

after barbados, we spent a short but sweet few days in boston. such a pretty city, where i found myself fascinated by its preppy style. the arts seem to thrive in boston as well. there were so many unique record stores, which seems to be rarity these days. we were also lucky enough get a chance to meet a very kind and generous blog friend. this is my kind of town.

barbados by land

barbados is the ultimate resting spot, and we did plenty of that. yet we also managed to find ourselves in a tropical rainforest with wild animals, harrisons cave, and a historical beach with some spectacular rock formations. these are a few of my favorite shots from some of our outings.

did you guys miss us? we were lucky enough to be on a family vacation in barbados and boston. we have so many great pictures to share, its hard to only pick a few. but when you think of barbados, you think of the beautiful caribbean sea, so thats what we would like to share today. many more highlights to come in the next few days.

new discovery

lately, I have been inspired by fashion photographer paul himmel. I so admire the visual style he brought to vogue and harper's bazaar magazine in the 1950's. I see a lot of dance and movement in his work that I absolutely find so inspiring. personally, I like his technique and the way experiments with photography. I particularly am fond of this image. I so love this silhouette and how elongated this photograph is....it almost appears very obscure and abstract. I can't help but also think of sculptor alberto giacometti. their style is strangely similar. at any rate, I am so happy to have discovered paul himmel...he has so influenced me for some simple, but intricate drawings in my sketchbook....love it when I randomly find inspiration.

minimal magic

I assume to some this look may seem too minimal and boring...but I am going to have to disagree. I much prefer minimalism over maximalism, anyday! I would gladly wear this look anytime of the year, especially now! I actually thought of this image when I was looking at the work of fashion photographer paul himmel. there is something about this photo that is very reminiscent of the his visual style....perhaps, you can see it, as well!

stella simplicity

stella mccartney fall/winter 2010

lately, I have been loving black stirrup pants....its quite perfect for fall. I wear them to exercise in and for my casual-chic days. I always like to refer back to stella mccartney's fall/winter 2010 collection when finding inspiration for this look. I particularly like this ensemble from that season. the outfit is so minimal and I love the way that stirrup pant is paired with that sleek black sweater and those pointy black kitten heels. its clean, polished, and yet completely chic! this really is a perfect example of minimal daywear done right!!!

with a long holiday weekend, I finally made some quality time to look through all the latest fashion magazines. I was really drawn to the current september issue of vogue paris magazine. I love that emmanuelle alt chose charlotte casiraghi as the cover girl. interestingly, I loved it when former editor-in-chief carine roitfeld chose her mother, princess stephanie of monaco as the guest editor back in january 2009...its nice to see that both mother and daughter had the distinguished honor of having their own vogue paris covers. its pretty clear, that they are both as equally stylish. I particularly loved charlotte casiraghi's editorial...she is such a natural beauty and she is currently my total eyebrow inspiration. I find her look very effortless, but yet completely elegant at the same time. its refreshing too see women with this type of glamour....

my favorite look from the layout had to be this black suit look with turtleneck....I love the way it looks on her...its sophisticated, a bit preppy, but above all dramatic. I also love the subtle touch of diamond earrings. I have a beautiful stella mccartney suit and I am always looking for ways to change and upgrade the look. I am now thinking I want to pair it with a turtleneck and some earrings for this upcoming fall season. I really love it when I find an image like this that inspires me with my wardrobe...can't wait to wear my suit this fall!

labor day

frida kahlo, my birth (1932)

I think I found the perfect painting for labor day...frida kahlo's my birth. recently, I happened to stumble upon an old october 2002 vanity fair interview with madonna. in the article, she talks about this controversial painting. madonna, herself, actually owns this painting and what I find so interesting about this article, is that she claims that she uses this painting as a litmus test to determine who her friends are and if somebody doesn't like this painting then she knows she can't be friends with that person...now, I am curious to know if madonna really has a lot of friends. at any rate, I have always felt that this was one of kahlo's most meaningful and personal paintings. some people may find it vulgar, but I think its one of her greatest. on that note, happy labor day!

suit yourself

I don't think I will ever understand the concept of not wearing white after labor day! personally, this makes no sense to me. this is one of those fashion rules that I could never follow.....especially when I see something as stunning as this ultra cool white suit....totally my style. its a bit masculine, but yet still so über-chic with a feminine edge. I would gladly wear this suit anytime of the year, even after labor day!

I love to watch jackie onassis walk....she has such a casual, cool elegance that I never get tired of looking at! from time to time, I need to be reminded of some of her greatest paparazzi moments...I often wonder how the paparazzi always captured this kind of effortless glamour.....I don't know about you, but I feel I can always learn something about style from observing her. personally, its these types of candid and unofficial shots that inspire me most.....

woman of style: sheikha mozah

I always look forward to the annual september issue of vanity fair magazine. I especially like the best dressed list. this year, there were a lot of great women of style who made the list and some new ones added, as well. one of the women on that list was sheikha mozah. if you don't know, she is the first lady of qatar...(she is pictured here in white) and I must say she really has a great sense of style. I am just discovering her, but I so admire her approach to dressing. it is also so refreshing to see a woman with this type of elegance. this look in particular is my favorite....it takes a certain kind of woman to get away with a turban and sheikha mozah does it perfectly. I so admire the way she pairs that turban with those sunglasses....plus, I love that white dress and how she places her blazer over her shoulders...this would totally be my ideal outfit for labor day weekend.

after careful observation, I find that there is something very jackie onassis about sheikha mozah....perhaps, it has something to do with the way she walks. at any rate, she is definetly a woman of style that I am now very much intrigued by....very rarely do I have these kind of style discoveries, but I am so fascinated by her...can't wait too see what else she will be wearing this year!
